Omega 3 fatty acids are a unique component of fish and fish oils, EPA and DHA (eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acid). This exceptional omega-3 fatty acid supplement supplies extra strength amounts of both EPA and DHA.  They are enteric
coated gels that allow for easy digestion with no after taste.

Reported benefits of Fish Oil:
Arthritis - In general, research has shown that patients notice a significant reduction in tender joints and morning stiffness within three months of using fish oil daily.

Heart Disease - Research show EPA/DHA lower total cholesterol, elevates HDL, and reduces platelet aggregation (a major cause of heart attacks).

Brain Health - DHA is the building block of human brain tissue. Research shows low levels have been associated with depression, memory loss, dementia and visual problems

Skin Appearance - The essential fatty acids work to maintain the moisture barrier function of the skin

How do diets rich in Essential Fatty Acids (EFA) help support cardiovascular health?
Research has shown EFA-rich diets help prevent heart attacks. Clinical studies have shown that, in people who have had heart attacks, Omega 3 reduces further damage, including subsequent heart attacks and strokes.  Omega 3 can decrease risk of arrhythmias [irregular heartbeat], which can lead to sudden death.  They also lower cholesterol/triglyceride levels, decrease growth rate of atherosclerotic plaque and lower blood pressure. Fatty acids from fish oil have been shown to reduce risk factors for heart disease, including high cholesterol and high blood pressure. They have also been shown to prevent the development of plaque leading to blood clots.

Why do I need Omega 3 acids for health and do I get enough in my diet?
Omega 3 fatty acids are necessary for human health, but must be supplied in the diet because they cannot be made by the body.  The American diet is not rich in Omega 3 fatty acids but needs to be included daily for maximum health benefits.  Good sources of Omega 3 oils include plant and nut oils from sources such as flaxseeds, pumpkin seeds and walnuts. Cold-water fish such as salmon, mackerel, halibut, sardines, tuna and herring also contain Omega 3 acids. However, the major supplies of fish are contaminated with mercury. California Physicians Supplements' Omega 3 is mercury free.

How do Omega 3 fatty acids help with bone health?
Research indicates that Omega 3 fatty acids help boost levels of calcium in the body and enhance bone strength by adding calcium to the skeletal structure. Other studies suggest that people lacking Omega 3 fatty acids in their diet are more prone to osteoporosis. Essential Fatty Acids (EFA) deficient diets have been linked to greater bone loss when compared to diets containing normal levels of fatty acids. In one three-year study of 65 women with osteoporosis, significantly less bone mass was lost in those who took EFA supplements, as opposed to women who were given placebo. Many of the EFA recipients saw an increase in bone density

Diets rich in Omega 3 fatty acids have also shown to benefit people with osteoarthritis.  Studies have demonstrated that Omega 3 fatty acids decrease inflammation and prevent certain enzymes from damaging cartilage.  Omega 3 helps preserve cartilage, prevent osteoarthritis and inhibits its progression.

How do Omega 3 fatty acids help enhance immune function?
The immune system depends upon proper message signals carried cell to cell. Any disruption in this pathway between immune cells can result in immune system dysfunction. Studies show that Omega 3 fatty acids are necessary for proper nerve signaling, as well as hormonal production and regulation. They also nourish the cell membrane and help prevent it from becoming rigid. Cell membrane rigidity has been linked to many problems because it disrupts the cell's ability to communicate with other cells, including immune cells.

Essential Fatty Acids help the body help shield itself against foreign invaders such as bacteria and viruses.1,2 If pathogens (harmful micro-organisms) do manage to get past the body's immune soldiers, the essential fatty acids also serve to help fortify cell membranes, the body's secondary defense against invasion of pathogens.3

How do Omega 3 fatty acids help support nervous system health?
Omega 3 is known to enhance the membranes of brain cells, including strengthening the cover of nerve cells called the myelin sheath. EFA's have shown to comprise approximately eight percent of the brain tissue and promotes nerve cell growth.
